Why not make every day Mother’s Day?

Mother’s contribute significantly to the shaping of ourselves as people and are often the making of us. And Mother’s Day is the day for celebrating this, and honouring motherhood, the maternal bond, and the influence mothers have on society.

You know the saying, “behind every great man is a woman.” That woman is his Mother.

Mother is the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world – Ann Jarvis

Mother’s make real personal sacrifices when it comes to the health and well-being of our children and our families, and it’s never easy! With sacrifice, however, comes great joy and meaning, despite the greying of hairs!

Mother’s Day was first originated in 1908 in USA and now there are over 150 countries that celebrate it. There’s no doubt of commercialisation. I don’t know about you, but everywhere I turn I see Mother’s Day campaigns galore (including our own below). But what the heck, as a Mum, I’m not complaining if I’m the recipient!

For me, every day is Mother’s Day, Family Day and Father’s Day. ‘Family’ is what it’s all about. ‘Family’ are who you turn to when the chips are down, for that support to get you through the dark days and beyond.

As a Mum in business, juggling family with competing priorities adds another layer of complexity to life. And while we’re beavering away to make Sunday special for everyone else, it is easy to forget about ourselves in amongst all this.

Time-Out For Mum on Mother's Day

So ladies, as this day has been specially reserved for you, make the most of it. Milk it – you deserve it!! Whether it’s time-out, a family outing, or being spoiled with a unique gift from Mainly Mamas, do what makes you happy!

As for me this Sunday, I’ll no doubt be awakened by the call of Tui’s at 6.30am, so no sleep-in for me. I’ll start the day with my usual homemade smoothie*, and sit in the spa to soak up the peace and calm of the bush at Bethells Beach. With the forecast for rain, I’ll then cosy up by the fire with the family and four-legged friends (avoiding the crowded restaurants and cafes) and indulge in a book of pure fiction – a rare treat!

What about you, how do you plan to spend Mother’s Day?

* (frozen berries, banana, frozen kale, almonds, flaxseeds, goji berries, chia seeds, dates, spirulina powder, soy milk, coconut water)
